OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Float the Channel
Floating the Channel from Okanagan Lake to Skaha Lake is a popular summer
pastime in Penticton. The float starts at Okanagan Lake at Coyote Cruisses
at 215 Riverside Drive. There is a public landing facility by the riverside
for starting your channel cruise. If you need floats Coyote Cruises
(492-2115) provides them and return transportation by bus to the start
area for a fee of about $10 per person.
Depending on the current and wind it can take 3-4 hours to float all
the way to Skaha Lake so an option is to only go half the distance to
the exit at Green Mountain Road where there is parking and a landing
area to exit the channel. Otherwise you can float all the way down to
Skaha Lake where again there is parking and a landing area to exit the
river.
Although you are on the water it can be very hot so bring a cool drink,
and wear sunscreen and a hat. You might even consider bringing some
heavy artillery to fend off passing floaters (ie water guns!!!)
Enjoy!
